Begun in 1913 this class was an enlargement of the preceding Normandie class Battleship, construction was due to start in 1915 but the out break of the Great War  halted the project at the design stage As with the Normandies the main armament was all center line  mounted in four quadruple turrets two super firing Aft ,with the 5.5 inch guns mounted in case mates .As with the armour the machinery of the ship was not really finalised . It was proposed to fit combined machinery similar to the Normandie or direct drive turbines as in the  Bearn  and earlier Dreadnoughts.Geared turbines was also a possibility. After the war their was no funds to restart buliding work on the Battle Fleet and so these vessel slipped gently into the realm of what may have been.
